Brake Fluid De-Hydration and Brake Bleeding

Brake Fluid De-hydration

.

From working with a Formula 1 team we know that they fill their vehicles hydraulic brake system with Endless RF 650 straight from an unopened metal container, this would be excellent practice if the brake fluid was in premium condition but it is not. Published data shows that new Endless RF650 contains 0.15% moisture. This may not seem very much on the face of it but it is a known fact that hydraulic fluids start having serious functionality problems when the moisture content rises above 300—to 400PPM (0.03 – 0.04%). The RF 650 brake fluid has a moisture content of 1500PPM.  A very small quantity of moisture makes many times its volume when boiled as it turns into vapour, hence braking problems and now the vehicles energy recovery system control functions from the brake pedal and vehicles retardation it can have a significant effect on available power.

Cleanse-oil has developed a brake fluid processing machine that de-hydrates brake fluid to at least or better than 50PPM @ 60 Centigrade and this equates to less than 5ppm at ambient temperatures.

If you would like to discuss the dehydration and de-aeration of brake fluid and see a demonstration of the equipment please contact Cleanse-oil by

Brake Bleeding and Vacuum Filling

Vehicle manufacturers and F1 -3 race teams are always trying to develop their vehicles and can only do this with information obtained from testing that involves in the case of the vehicles braking performance  equipment that can test and evaluate a vehicles braking system and its components.

DesTecH Automation and its subsidiary company Cleanse-oil is a business that has over 25 years experience of designing and supplying brake test and evaluations systems, along with brake bleeding equipment and brake fluid processing equipment.

In the past DesTecH has worked with the following brake component manufacturers to design and supply brake testing and evaluation equipment:-

  • Lucas Girling
  • Teves
  • Bosch
  • Wabco

Each manufacturer had their own specific equipment requirements ie vacuum filling, flushing fill, fluid moisture removal, slow/fast fluid fill,  but they all included brake fluid pressurised dispensing with pressures from 2 to 72Bar, fluid degassing and system pressurising/depressurising. The equipment was used to fatigue test a complete braking system, test the ultimate working pressures, the effects or benefits of different fill methods, the effects of design features, the effects of different fluid moisture content, the effects of entrained or dissolved air within the fluid and to find the best brake bleeding method or process.

We have recently completed a full brake system test for a vehicle manufacturer to find the process required to fill the brake system as the standard brake filling equipment was not producing an acceptable working braking system. The testing identified the problems that resulted in poor quality braking and recommendations were made and subsequent vehicles produced had high quality brakes.

We are currently advising a motorsport business about how they can improve their braking system, improve the braking performance including reducing brake fade and functional tests are planned in the very near future. These tests being commissioned after we demonstrated equipment that improves the brake fluid wet boiling point to that of the dry boiling point.

There are many different bleeding methods and with technology advancement, knowledge and system requirements we can offer equipment that’s far more able to process brake fluid and bleed system brakes.

If you do have an equipment requirement, we would be more than happy to propose for your evaluation suitable equipment and make any suggestions for improvements and better component evaluation.
